Safety Tips for Riding an Electric Scooter

Riding smart and staying safe is the best way to make sure you have a great time with your favorite Freego products. When you’re ready to ride, a good rule of thumb is to use the appropriate precautions.

Be sure to read the following safety tips and take them seriously to avoid losing control, falling or sustaining a potentially serious injury. Follow our Freego Rules, and you’ll be ready to ride smart and have a great time.

Who Should Ride

The Freego product should not be ridden by anyone under the recommended age (18-years-old). In addition, it is recommended that you have already had 6 months or more of a two-wheel cycling experience to use the scooter.

Getting Geared Up

Always wear a helmet that meets the test criteria approved. Elbow and kneepads are also recommended. Wear athletic shoes, lace-up shoes with rubber soles, and make sure to keep shoelaces out of the way of wheels. Don’t ever ride barefoot or in sandals.

Follow Traffic Laws

Yield to pedestrians, ride in the direction of traffic, signal if you’re planning to change directions, and come to a complete stop at red lights and stop signs. Check your city government’s website for local laws.

Get Your Kugoo Ready

Make sure to read the owner’s manual inside the box before using your Freego product. Before every ride, check and secure all fasteners and check wheels for wear and tear. Replace worn or broken parts immediately. Keep your product clean by wiping with a damp cloth to remove dirt and dust.

Start Slow

Gradually get the feel of your new ride before riding with others. Learn how tight a turn you can comfortably make and practice applying the brake at various speeds in an open area. Hold onto the handlebars at all times.

Watch the Terrain & Be Alert

When riding a Freego scooter, avoid water, speed bumps, sand, gravel and anything that could cause your front wheel to stop. Even a modest bump in the sidewalk can stop the front wheel and cause a fall. Better to ride around obstacles than to take a spill. Meanwhile, be mindful of large vehicles making wide right turns, avoid riding in other vehicles’ blind spots, and be focused and alert. Make sure to be aware of your surroundings and never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Use “Extreme” Caution

With practice, you’ll get increasingly more comfortable on your ride. But, no matter how long you’ve been riding, you should always use caution. Avoid steep inclines and don’t ride too fast – you can lose control and fall. Never ride in traffic and watch your surroundings for pedestrians, bikers, boarders, and skaters. You will see people on TV or even people you know doing tricks and stunts, but you shouldn’t try something until you are ready. These are people that have been practicing for a very long time. Remember, ride smart and stay safe.

Park Responsibly

Finished riding? Park inside the appropriate parking area, and be aware of no-parking areas! Make sure you’re looking out for others and never leave your scooter blocking walkways or accessibility ramps.
